Origin and Past Matter!

In life, we often look at situations and people through a superficial lens, rarely taking the time to observe and truly understand until a drastic event—for better or for worse—forces our eyes open. As followers of Jesus Christ, our hearts must remain open to see the reality of others, accepting men and women as they are without necessarily complying with or validating the things that contradict God’s design. Wisdom dictates a simple but profound rule: we must accept everyone as they are, but place them exactly where they belong. In this modern era, society operates behind masks of various natures. Because time is of the essence and our days on this earth are strictly numbered, we must filter our associations with rigorous discipline. Compatibility and truth matter immensely, because the mask presented to the world rarely represents the soul hidden behind it.

We must train our minds to see things for the absolute nature they represent and treat them accordingly. God’s creation is profoundly kind, yet it provides stark warnings; in nature, the most venomous creatures possess aggressive biological structures and vivid colors, visually screaming a warning of their lethal danger. A starving tiger will not refrain from devouring you simply because you are a vegan… And tigers are beautiful creatures. Similarly, human evil often masquerades behind an image of benevolence. Even the worst criminal has, at some point, shared food or given money—not out of virtue, but as a calculated tool to gain trust and open the gate to destruction. The wisdom of our elders warned us of the danger of free favors and unearned compliments: Salt and sugar look exactly alike until you taste them; the road to suffering is paved with gold and smiles; a man rubs the head of a horse only so he can ride it; not everything that shines is gold; and do not be deceived by appearances, for even Satan was an angel before.

When assessing the character of any man or woman, understand that there is no better predictor of future behavior than past behavior. Origins matter deeply. How a person was raised, whether they have inflicted violence, stolen, or acted abusively in the past—these historical facts carry the weight of absolute truth. The true personality of a human being is not defined by a few minutes of kindness or a brief season of good behavior, but by their daily disciplines and routines executed over years. If you want to know who someone is, look at the trajectory of their habits. Discipline defines the quality and character of a person over time. It is the relentless choice of knowledge, routine, and habit sustained over decades that reveals whether a soul is anchored in the righteousness of what is right and good by nature or drifting in deceit.

Just as nature uses beautiful colors as a warning, the naive or the negligent are often lured to their destruction by their own unchecked curiosity and attraction to superficial beauty. Never blindly trust looks or honeyed words; demand to see the architecture of their actions. Be fiercely aware that even evil individuals can be highly disciplined and exceptionally well-educated, which only makes them more lethal. There are beautiful people with pure hearts whose lives reflect the love of God and what is right and just, and there are beautiful people who weaponize their physical appearance to manipulate, consume, and destroy those around them. This is why a person’s roots and the historical fruit of their life are the only metrics you can trust to protect yourself from catastrophe.

A man or woman who is proud of how they have used the time God has given them walks in the light. They may be reserved or open, but their path is undeniably clear; their past actions, current disciplines, and spoken words perfectly align when they seek to build a relationship. Conversely, the liar exhibits a very peculiar behavioral tell: they refuse to answer straight questions. While wisdom requires us all to guard our deepest truths from strangers, if you are going to open the doors of your home, enter a business venture, or allow someone near your family, you must demand transparency. If you want to clearly see a human being, be patient. Examine their actions at least over the last five years. If they refuse to speak about their past, or if their claims lack proof and contradict their actions, step away immediately. Unless you are a clinical professional assigned to their case, do not engage with what is hidden in darkness. You have a supreme duty, empowered by the intellect God gave you, to protect your family, your life’s work, and your legacy from those who operate in the shadows.
